There are hundreds of ways you and your family can help keep our neighborhood green, beautiful and clean — and as trash-free as possible. One way is to think differently about everything your family buys, consumes, and throws away.

At RoseLake Estates, we think of this philosophy as “thinking outside the (recycling) bin,” instead of “outside the box.” Here are some helpful hints to keep our community clean and green:

  • Expand the way you think of recycling beyond cans, glass, paper and plastics. You can also recycle lots of things you and your family no longer need such as: Eyeglasses to those in need (Lion’s Club), shoes (Souls4Soles.org), bikes (ProjectBicycle.org), clothing (Goodwill and DressforSuccess.org) and household electronics (Best Buy takes some, and ecoATM and End of Life Electronics take most).
  • Buy in bulk as much as possible. Instead of pre-packed goods like cereal, grans and nuts, consider buying them in bulk. Less packaging = less waste.
  • Buy with an eye toward less packaging whenever possible.
  • Bring your own reusable bags to every store you shop. Say no when you are offered plastic bags.
  • As older light bulbs burn out, replace them with Energy efficient light bulbs. They may cost more, but they last longer and typically use 25 to 80% less energy than incandescent bulbs.
  • Clear your mailbox of catalogs, coupons and credit card offers. Opt out of junk mail and sign up for paperless bills from as many reoccurring household bills as possible. Bank on line and pay bills that way, too. Less trash and less paper contribute to a greener, healthier world.

We love our clean, tree-filled RoseLake community. Thank you for the choices you and your family make every day to keep RoseLake Estates and Pendleton as earth-friendly and clean as possible!
